Samuel Essende evaded his opponents on the left and passed it back to Claude-Maurice, who scored his fourth goal of the season. But the joy of taking the lead didn’t last long. First, defender Keven Schlotterbeck had to be replaced injured, then Kiel used the resulting disorder to equalize. Shuto Machino prepared, Rosenboom scored. Augsburg shook itself briefly and had a great chance to take the lead again through Phillip Tietz (22′), but then only the hosts played. The strong Machino also prepared the second goal for Harres, who scored a brace just three minutes later. Kiel played itself into a bit of a frenzy, almost every shot hit. Machino crowned his brilliant performance with a converted free kick to make it 4-1 before the break. Augsburg was visibly impressed, almost all of the duels in this phase went to the hosts. Shortly before the break, Kristijan Jakic (43rd) and Chrislain Matsima (45th + 3) missed good opportunities for the guests. The second half started much quieter. Kiel concentrated on being secure defensively. Augsburg tried to catch up, but coach Jess Thorup’s team lacked ideas. Matsima also aimed too imprecisely (55th). However, Kiel became more and more passive and isolated themselves around their own penalty area. But Augsburg didn’t punish that. On the contrary: Machino brought it to a close.
