Goalscorer Ritsu Doan initiated the attack himself and then positioned himself so ideally in the six-yard box that he only had to shoot in a precise pass from Merlin Röhl. From Frankfurt’s perspective, the 0-1 came completely out of nowhere. But the Hessians reacted strongly. Just six minutes after conceding the goal, Eintracht countered thanks to defense chief Robin Koch, who did not celebrate his goal against former club Freiburg. Striker Hugo Ekitiké fired two powerful shots before half-time, but the Frenchman narrowly missed in both cases. The sports club was very well served with the draw at half-time. Even after that, the game largely boiled down to one goal. Frankfurt pressed, but repeatedly failed to finish – mostly because of goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, but also several times at the side netting. The guests limited themselves to defense mode and occasionally tried from a distance. That was far too little. With Omar Marmoush’s opening goal the game was decided – the last 25 minutes were all about how big Frankfurt’s victory would be.
