Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega made a remarkable marathon debut, winning the Seville Marathon on Sunday (February 23) with a time of 2:05:15. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic 10,000m champion surged ahead to claim victory, finishing comfortably ahead of fellow Ethiopian Tafere Adisu (2:06:27) and Morocco’s Mohamed Reda El Aaraby (2:06:45). In the women’s race, Anchinalu Dessie triumphed with a time of 2:22:17, while Manon Trapp set a French national record (2:23:38) and was visibly emotional after finishing second. The 40th edition of the Seville Marathon was a sold-out event, featuring 14,000 runners on one of Europe’s fastest courses.
