2020 has been cancelled due to the new coronavirus, including the high school general tournament, in addition to various tournaments. This is a special feature that follows the present day of high school athletes who were expected to perform well at the time. This time we will introduce Nishi-Ono Koudai, a “swimming” player from Kagoshima Information High School. Artistic Basalo kicks rippling into the quiet pool in the morning! ! Nishi-Ono Koudai, a fourth-year student at Chukyo University, has hone his high physical abilities through steady efforts, and was awarded a global aquatics representative for the 200m backstroke at the Japan Swimming Championships in March of this year. “He’s as expected, he’s good at basalo kicks, so even at the World Championships, he keeps increasing with the last 50m basalo kick, so I think he’d be happy if he’ll pay attention to that.” This is what student coach Oya Kaita, who was a rival until the 2024 Intercollegiate Championships. We are currently working together in training and have supported Nishi-Ono by our side. (Student Coach Oya Kaita) “Each movement is carefully done, and it’s really high quality, so I think that kind of thing will lead to results.” I went to interview on Monday, after the off-off day, and I was impressed by how he carefully faced his body from each close-up. Behind Nishi-Ono’s attitude is a clear goal design that has been seen since childhood. (Nishi Ono: In his third year of junior high school) “My goal is to win the Kagoshima National Athletics in 2020, and I want to become an athlete who can compete in the World Championships and the Olympics after that.” At the Japan Championships I participated in in my third year of junior high school, I was the only middle school student in the 200m backstroke, and I have competed on numerous stages with top swimmers, having set a record of 2 minutes 3.0 seconds, breaking my personal best. However, in the summer of my second year of high school, the high school wing was cancelled due to the impact of the new coronavirus… Furthermore, the Kagoshima National wing, which I had dreamed of as a junior high school student, has also been decided to postpone the Kagoshima National wing. (Nishi Ono) “I was really shocked, and I was really depressed at the time.” Still, I looked ahead with an eye on the future. “Even though there were no tournaments, I thought my swimming career would continue, and I didn’t change what I did and I wanted to train as well as before, so I didn’t waver.” This is the day I’ve accumulated so much effort. However, in the Tokyo Olympic Selection and Japan Championships held in April in my third year of high school, I finished 8th, and it was a very disappointing result… I continued to hold back at the Inter-High School Championships in my third year of high school, which was held amidst numerous restrictions. Then he went to Chukyo University and finished 9th in the semi-finals at the Parisiolmpics selection event in March 2024. The person behind Nishi-Ono was coach Kusanagi from the Chukyo University swimming club. (Coach Kusanagi) “Difficult is an opportunity to change dramatically. Everyone sees “difficult” as “not a good word,” but after a difficult time, it may be the most important thing to say that they want them to take on the challenge because they can change dramatically, and that it is only when it is difficult to change dramatically.” “Also, humans are weak creatures, so they say that they don’t express their weaknesses, but because they are weak to hide their weaknesses, so they should put them into words.” These mentor’s advice supported Nishi-Ono. (Nishi Ono) “I tried to swim with the intention of making each swim bigger, but I think it was good that I was able to go back to the tempo again from around autumn and winter last year and return to the original.” Nishi Ono says that he realized that nothing is obvious as a change from the COVID-19 pandemic. What does Nishi-Ono want to tell the current high school students? “This is what my parents taught me since I was little, but be humble or honest.” “I hope they will cherish the connections of their friends, their supportive families and coaches, and do their best to avoid regrets.” For more information, please see the video. ■Please subscribe to our channel https://www.youtube.com/c/kkb5ch ■KKB video app “KAPLI” We are currently delivering news, videos, and information on Kagoshima! https://www.kkb.co.jp/kapli/ ■KAPLI X (Aim for 10,000 people!!) https://x.com/kapli_kkb #Lost Summer #Coronavirus #Swimming #Nishi-Ono Koudai #High School Athletics #Kagoshima #KAPLI #KKB
