The “Militär-Patrouillen-Lauf” (Military Patrol) at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen was a demonstration event that was the forerunner of modern biathlon.
You can see Reich soldiers along the route.
An event combining cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.
Competed by military teams (often four men: 1 officer, 1 non-commissioned officer, 2 soldiers).
The course was approximately 25 km long, with targets to shoot at along the way.
Each team carried backpacks and rifles, in an authentic military spirit.
The military patrol was contested as a demonstration at the Olympic Games of 1924, 1928, 1936 and 1948.
