Hybrid athlete, fashion or future? 👉 Definition: A hybrid athlete is a person who integrates different sports disciplines, typically strength and resistance, to develop multipurpose physical skills and achieve a wider fitness range. This combination leads to a complete training, which aims to compensate for the limitations of individual sports and to improve both cardiovascular, muscular and power capabilities. 👉Pro 1) Lots of variety and always new stimuli. 2) Fun and more sustainable over time, both mentally and physically. 3) Possibility of completing competitions and training in different disciplines 👉 Cons 1) Risk (concrete) of being underperforming in the different disciplines 2) It is more difficult to perform, so there is the risk of not developing the mental strength necessary to do so in each discipline. 3) Less time for specific training in the various disciplines and more generic training 4) Little awareness of one’s own strengths and limits. 🤌 What do I think? I have been practicing competitive sport for 16 years now, including Olympic rowing (with multiple participations in world championships) and Trail, ultra Trail and running races at fair levels (in my opinion); I think I have enough experience to say that from what I remember, my preparation and that of any good/fair level athlete has been integrating multiple disciplines for at least 14 years (bike/swimming/strengthening in the weight room/skimo etc.). Obviously not with the aim of doing a bit of everything with poor results but of performing better in one’s discipline. So without mincing words: 1) In 2025 with hybrid training you have not discovered hot water. 2) Fun and varied for sure 3) Maybe even more mentally and physically sustainable over time. But performance sport is something else. #trailalquadrato #ultrarunner #runningcoach #trailrunning #running #hybridathlete #ultratrailrunner
