Are we about to see the greatest version of Shohei Ohtani yet?

Dave Roberts says the Los Angeles Dodgers plan to fully unleash Shohei Ohtani as a true two-way force again — pitching and hitting at full capacity now that he’s well removed from elbow surgery. Roberts even believes Ohtani could be in the mix for a Cy Young Award.

Kelvin Washington predicts a historic stat line: 40+ home runs, 30+ steals, elite ERA, and another MVP run. We’ve already seen Ohtani win multiple MVPs (including his unanimous 2021 season) while putting up video-game numbers on both sides of the ball. In 2022, he posted a 2.33 ERA with 219 strikeouts AND hit 34 homers. That’s something the sport hasn’t seen since the days of Babe Ruth.

But Rob Parker pushes back on the hype. He argues that for Ohtani to truly be the greatest player ever, he’d need to win both a Cy Young and MVP in the SAME season. Why? Because individually, Ohtani hasn’t been the single best pitcher or the single best hitter in baseball. Is the “GOAT” talk premature?
