Ohtani didn’t gain muscle with protein shakes.
When he was trying to add size early in his career, one of the biggest changes he made was increasing carbohydrates.
He went hardcore on his rice intake.
It helped him increase calories without feeling overly full, which made it easier to gain weight and build muscle.
Protein is still important.
But protein alone does not build muscle.
Muscle requires calories.
And carbohydrates are one of the easiest ways for athletes to increase total fuel.
That’s why foods like:
– Rice
– Potatoes
– Sweet potatoes
– Oats
– Fruit
often make a bigger difference than adding another protein shake.
Most athletes trying to gain muscle don’t actually need more protein.
They need more FUEL.
What are you doing right now to put on muscle?
