Shohei Ohtani spoke with English media after his start against the Toronto Blue Jays, giving an honest assessment of his outing.
Ohtani admitted the performance was not where he wanted it to be.
“It wasn’t my best… but I was able to throw my pitch count.”
Despite not having his best command, he emphasized being able to get through his workload as a positive step early in the season.
Ohtani also shared that his overall condition is not bad, even if the feel on the mound wasn’t perfect.
“My condition isn’t bad… just didn’t have the best feel.”
He noted some fatigue late in the outing, but was encouraged that he was still able to compete and get through it.
Another key moment from Ohtani came off the field, as he showed support for teammate Miguel Rojas.
Ohtani explained the meaning behind wearing a patch in honor of Rojas’ father and emphasized the importance of supporting teammates during difficult times.
“We want to support him as a team.”
Looking ahead, Ohtani believes he is trending in the right direction, especially for this point in the season.
“It’s pretty normal for me early in the season.”
Overall, Ohtani sees this outing as part of the process, with better performances ahead.
