International Olympic Day is celebrated on 23rd June and the foundation is built upon three pillars; Move, Learn & Discover. People across the world commemorate this day and the goal was to promote participation in sports across the globe irrespective of caste, creed, religion or gender.
Olympic Day celebrations can be traced back to 1948. It was introduced to celebrate the birth of modern Olympic Games on 23rd June 1984 at Sorbonne in Paris. It was Doctor Gruss, a Czech IOC member, who presented this idea of a World Olympic Day at the 41st Session of the International Olympic Committee in Stockholm, Sweden, leading to the formation of National Olympic Committees. This date celebrates a remarkable moment in the history of the Olympic movement.
