It might not be the Champions League or the World Cup, or the Euro 2020 Finals, or even the return of the European football season. But guess what? It’s probably the next best thing before all that resumes, it’s football at the Olympic Games.

Oddspedia are here to preview all the football at the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. Some of the world’s best talent will be on show in the Japanese capital, with Spain and Brazil the main favourites to stake their claim and win gold.

Spain are big favourites to finish on the top spot of the podium with six members of their squad featuring at the European Championships this summer. They won gold in Barcelona in 1992 and were runners-up in Sydney 2000.

Next in line for the bookmakers is Brazil. They will have to negotiate a tough group if they want to go far in the tournament but do have some stars such as Paulinho, Richarlison and the ageing Dani Alves to lead their younger players through the competition. They won the gold medal in Rio on penalties against Germany, and also won the silver in London losing against Mexico.

France typically always do well in these youth tournaments. In their squad this time around they have a real mix of veterans and youngsters, such as Andre-Pierre Gignac and Florian Tauvin. They achieved the gold medal in Los Angeles back in 1984.

Argentina will be relying on a strong youth team to go for gold when they kick off their Olympics’ football campaign. The Albiceleste are one of the outsiders in the men’s competition with odds of 9.0.

The two other nations to really focus on in the men’s competition are Japan, who are fully focused on this event due to them being the hosts and blessed with the talented duo of Takefusa Kubo and Maya Yoshida. The other nation to look out for in the odds market is Germany. Max Kruse is clearly the biggest star of a brand-new German team, but it won’t be easy for them this time out despite them finishing runners-up in Rio just 4 years ago.

We’ve also offered some betting insight for the ever-popular Olympics women’s football event, with USA the clear favourites in a packed event on that side of the draw. Are we in for some shocks this tournament? It’s looking quite likely!
