Consulting contract with former director Haruyuki Takahashi, whose illegality was pointed out within ADK Tokyo Olympics corruption

In a corruption scandal surrounding the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, it was discovered that the consulting contract that ADK Holdings had signed with a former director of the organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics was illegal within the company. ADK’s former president Shinichi Ueno, 68, and three other people bribed Haruyuki Takahashi, 78, former director of the organizing committee of the Tokyo 2020 Games, asking ADK to provide benefits in connection with the Tokyo Olympics sponsorship contract. He was arrested by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office’s Special Investigation Department. Of the approximately 47 million yen bribe received by Takahashi, 27 million yen was paid based on the consulting contract that ADK had with Takahashi since 2013. However, after Takahashi became a director of the organizing committee in 2014, it became clear from interviews with officials that there were voices pointing out the illegality of the contract in discussions within ADK. The Special Investigation Department is believed to be investigating Ueno and others as they were aware of the bribery.
