“Wagyu Olympics” The results report meeting of the National Wagyu Ability Exhibition was held in Maebashi City. It was reported that four horses submitted from Gunma Prefecture achieved the best results ever, such as winning the honor prize. The National Wagyu Talent Show is a competition held once every five years in which farmers from all over the country gather wagyu beef to compete on the taste, quality, and improvement of the beef. The 12th tournament was held last month in Kagoshima Prefecture for five days, and the results report was held in Maebashi City on the 16th. At the ceremony, Toru Karasawa, chairman of the Prefectural Livestock Industry Association, handed a letter of appreciation to the six representatives who exhibited the wagyu beef. This year, four wagyu cows from within the prefecture were selected for the first prize, achieving the best results ever. Of these, Kato Ranch in Ota City ranked 5th in the beef cattle category, and Kenichi Takei in Numata City ranked 11th nationwide in the breeding cattle category. The prefectural livestock industry association cited the effective use of “genomic evaluation”, which can analyze the genetic information of wagyu cattle before breeding, as a factor in this leap.
