Fortuna Dusseldorf strengthens with Ao Tanaka. The 22-year-old midfielder will be on loan from Japanese top club Kawasaki Frontale for one year from July 1st, 2021. In addition, both clubs have agreed on a purchase option. Born in Kawasaki, Tanaka has played exclusively for his home club since adolescence. Making his J-League debut in 2018, just after his 20th birthday, the central midfielder has since made 79 appearances in his home country’s top division, scoring eight goals. With Kawasaki Frontale, Tanaka won the Japanese championship in 2018 and 2020, and in the current season, which runs from February to December, his team is the leader of the standings by a wide margin. Tanaka has also gained international experience with four appearances in the AFC Champions League, five games for the Japan U23 national team and two games for Japan’s senior national team.
