Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic said his team’s next opponent believes Japan deserved to be in round of sixteen at the FiFA World Cup in Qatar.
Speaking on Friday, the day after Croatia finished top of group F, Dalic said Japan is a team “that doesn’t quit” and that they would be “anything but an easy opponent” in the next round.
Croatia held Belgium to a goalless draw in their final group match, a result that knocked out Belgium from the world cup.
Croatia have played Japan twice in the past world cups – winning 1-0 in 1998 while the 2006 match ended in a goalless draw.
