Yūto Nagatomo began his professional career in 2007 at FC Tokyo. He competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He was selected for the first time in the Japan football team in 2008 and was part of the group of twenty-three selected for the 2010 Football World Cup. After this he landed in Europe, in Cesena FC where he is on loan from FC Tokyo. In January 2011, he took part in the Asian Cup in Qatar and notably delivered the decisive pass for Tadanari Lee’s winning goal in the final against Australia. He was voted the best left-back in the competition. Following the competition, the leaders of Cesena definitively buy the Japanese side from FC Tokyo. But finally, on January 31, 2011, they decided to loan Yūto Nagatomo to Inter Milan with a purchase option set at 6 million euros. Davide Santon doing the reverse. On June 30, 2011, Cesena FC’s official website stated that Yūto Nagatomo was now officially an Inter Milan player. On April 8, 2016, the club announced the extension of the player’s contract until 2019. On January 31, 2018, Yūto Nagatomo was loaned by Inter Milan to Galatasaray SK (purchase option at 7 million euros)1. He was definitively transferred to the Istanbul club the following summer. On August 31, 2020, Yūto Nagatomo signed free with Olympique de Marseille for a period of one year.
