The 16-day sports festival has ended. Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was one of the games where we experienced many firsts for our country. Türkiye managed to break the medal record at the Olympic Games. Türkiye, which previously won 12 medals in the 1948 London Olympic Games, managed to win 13 medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Turkey, whose female athletes had only been on the podium 5 times before, broke a record in this sense in these games, and Turkish female athletes won 5 medals only in Tokyo 2020. Additionally, for the first time in the history of the games, Turkey managed to win a medal in the Women’s Boxing category, while Busenaz Sürmeneli’s gold medal became the first gold medal in our boxing history. In Archery, where we have never received a medal before, Mete Gazoz, the Olympic champion in the Individual Men’s category, brought our country its first gold medal in this branch. Yasemin Adar, who was our country’s first female European and World Champion in women’s wrestling, won her first Olympic medal. Our country won 4 medals in Karate, which took part in Tokyo 2020 for the first time. Eray Şamdan won the silver medal, Merve Çoban, Ali Sofuoğlu and Uğur Aktaş won the bronze medal.
