Sports News: The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has decided to reduce the number of weight categories in both the men’s and women’s sections from 10 to 8. The 49kg category, in which India’s Mirabai Chanu had won a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, has also been scrapped. Mirabai’s ongoing rehabilitation from a thigh injury, which forced her to miss the World Championships in Bahrain’s Manama. The 30-year-old has not competed since her fourth-place finish in the 49kg category at the Paris Olympics in Aug.
