It’s been a blustery week in Scottish football, with the fallout from the League Cup Final continuing, and it’s a blustery day here at Tannadice as Dundee United welcome Celtic for this lunchtime kickoff.

It’s the first time Brendan Rodgers’ side will take to the field since lifting that League Cup trophy last Sunday against Rangers. Of course, the game went to penalty kicks, with Daizen Maeda scoring the decisive spot-kick after Ridvan Yilmaz saw his penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel.

Bizarrely, despite being in his second spell as Celtic manager, this is Brendan Rodgers’ first visit to Tannadice. A victory here today would be history-making for the very experienced Celtic manager. Rodgers could make changes today amid this packed fixture schedule over the festive period. Alistair Johnston could miss today’s game as he’s nursing an injury, although Rodgers mentioned that if he missed this match, he would be back for the next one against Motherwell. James Forrest will definitely be out for six weeks after picking up a knock in the League Cup Final against Rangers.

In terms of Dundee United, they’ve had an excellent start to the season under Jim Goodwin. They currently sit fifth in the table, just two points behind Motherwell, so a victory here today would see them leapfrog the Steelmen into fourth place. However, they were on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Stuart Kettlewell’s side last time out. Sam Dalby could be key today. The striker has scored eight goals in nine games, and the on-loan Wrexham player has said this week that he’d like to make the move permanent. If Dundee United are to get anything out of today’s game, he could be a key figure.

It’s the last round of fixtures before Christmas Day, and I’m sure both managers will be looking for the gift of three points today. I’ll be back with you at halftime and fulltime. In the meantime, you can keep up to date with all the match action across PLZ Soccer’s social media channels.
