Newly promoted Holstein Kiel inflicted a bitter defeat on Borussia Dortmund. The “Storks” took perfect advantage of counter-attack opportunity on the 17th matchday of the Bundesliga. The fans celebrated the 4:2 (3:0) triumph with a lot of pyrotechnics, which is why the game had to be interrupted several times. After the break, substitute Gio Reyna shortened the score (71′). Jamie Gittens scored the next goal a short time later (77th). Successful coach Marcel Rapp’s team managed the celebrated victory over time – also because Fiete Arp scored the fourth goal for Kiel at the last second (90th + 8th). Kiel got off to a good start right from the start and had their first chance to score in the fifth minute. Finn Porath shot from the left, but Gregor Kobel in the box had no problems with the rather weak shot attempt. Dortmund then took control of the game, but without creating any useful chances to score. The “Storks” took the lead out of nowhere after almost half an hour: After Julian Brandt lost the ball, Alexander Bernhardsson fed his Japanese colleague Machino, who hit the goal from the edge of the penalty area on the left. Machino was also involved in the second goal when he put a ricochet shot in midfield to Lasse Rosenboom on the right, whose precise cross was placed by Harres in the visitors’ box. After another double chance, it was again the excellent teamwork of the Kiel offensive that made it 3-0. Machino stole the ball from the Black and Yellows in their own half. The ball reached Bernhardsson via Porath and Harres, who was able to finish the ball in the 16’s. The Borussia team seemed not only out of ideas, but also powerless and completely unsettled. During the break, BVB coach Nuri Sahin rebuilt his team: the weak defense was reduced by Julian Ryerson and Ramy Bensebaini, and the coach switched his defense to a three-man chain with Waldemar Anton. The measure worked – at least a little. Because Kiel’s advances were noticeably slowing down. But there was still little more than a mild breeze on the Dortmund side in the “creativity” department. That changed when Sahin brought Yan Couto and Gio Reyna into the game after just under an hour. Serhou Guirassy immediately rummaged through Kiel’s penalty area, but as it fell, he put the ball just wide of the goal. As in the first half, Dortmund had significantly more possession of the ball and suddenly became efficient. First Reyna scored the first goal for the guests with a precision shot from the edge of the penalty area, then Gittens was lucky with BVB’s second chance to score because his shot from the left by Timo Becker was unstoppable for KSV keeper Timon Weiner. Now Kiel had to tremble – all the more so because veteran substitute Lewis Holtby, shortly after taking over the captain’s armband, over-motivatedly stepped in from behind against Felix Nmecha and was quite rightly shown the red card by referee Martin Petersen (86th). The final point was set by Fiete Arp, who hit the empty Dortmund goal from 40 meters from a Dortmund corner, for which goalkeeper Gregor Kobel had also come forward.
