Seiya Suzuki Takes Batting Practice… Samurai Style! ⚾️⚔️
Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki recently stepped into the batting cage to take some cuts. But this was no ordinary BP session.
Instead of a baseball bat, Suzuki strolled into the right-handed batter’s box wielding a SAMURAI SWORD—because why not?
What happened next was exactly what you’d expect… and then some.
Slicing & Dicing
With a few light swings, Suzuki chopped through baseballs like a true warrior. The grand finale? One unfortunate baseball got sliced clean in half, with a piece flying straight toward the Cubs’ videographer. (No injuries were reported, but that baseball definitely didn’t survive.)
And in case you were wondering—yes, Suzuki made contact on every single pitch. No swinging swords and missing over here.
A Legendary Tradition
Suzuki isn’t the first Japanese slugger to train this way. The legendary Sadaharu Oh, baseball’s all-time home run king with 868 dingers, was also known to refine his swing using a samurai sword. If it worked for him, who’s to say it doesn’t add a little extra power?
The Bat vs. The Sword
Unfortunately for Suzuki, MLB rules prohibit swordplay at the plate, meaning he’ll have to stick to traditional lumber when the Cubs and Dodgers open the 2025 season in Tokyo on March 18.
But hey, if Suzuki brings the same precision and power to Opening Day, the Dodgers might just wish he brought the sword instead.
