Left-handed pitcher Yusei Kikuchi has agreed to a three-year, $63 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels, sources confirmed to ESPN. The 33-year-old had a strong second half of the 2024 season after being traded from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Houston Astros, posting a 2.70 ERA in 10 starts. Over 32 starts in 2024, Kikuchi finished with a 4.05 ERA. His consistency and durability, having made at least 29 starts in each of the past four seasons, were key factors in securing his new deal.
Kikuchi, who made his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2019, will be joining his fourth team. He had his best season in 2023 with the Blue Jays, posting an 11-6 record and a 3.86 ERA, helping the team make the playoffs. His contributions to the Astros in 2024 also played a role in their postseason push.
The Angels, who have been aggressive this offseason, have also added Kyle Hendricks as a starter, traded for outfielder Jorge Soler, and signed catcher Travis d’Arnaud. The team is hoping Kikuchi’s addition will bolster their rotation as they look to return to the postseason for the first time since 2014.
