The Women’s 100m | Sha’Carri Richardson, Shericka Jackson & Fraser-Pryce vs Elaine Thompson-Herah
Just weeks after her spectacular Olympic victory in Tokyo, Elaine Thompson-Herah returned to competition with a commanding performance that once again rocked the world of athletics. At the Eugene leg of the Diamond League, she clocked a sensational 10.54 seconds in the women’s 100 meters—establishing the second-fastest time ever recorded, trailing only Florence Griffith-Joyner’s controversial 10.49 from 1988.
The race featured an elite lineup. In Lane 1 stood American sprinter Tiana Daniels; Lane 2 hosted Javianne Oliver; in Lane 3 was Olympic bronze medalist Shericka Jackson; and in Lane 4, sprinting icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the Tokyo silver medalist and two-time Olympic champion. Lane 5 featured Sha’Carri Richardson, the much-discussed American sprinter who missed the Olympics due to suspension and was aiming for redemption. Positioned in Lane 6 was the reigning Olympic champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah. The rest of the field included Marie-Josée Ta Lou in Lane 7, Mujinga Kambundji in Lane 8, and Jamaica’s rising star Briana Williams in Lane 9.
