On July 22, 1976, 14-year-old Romanian Nadia Comaneci made history at the Olympic Games in Montreal: she achieved a perfect score of 10.0 in the uneven bars final – the first gymnast ever to do so. She had already achieved this feat in the qualification on July 18 and repeated it in the final despite the enormous pressure. As the scoreboard could only display two-digit numbers, 1.00 appeared incorrectly. Although she won a total of nine Olympic medals in her career, five of them gold, the “10.0” remains her most symbolic moment – and makes her inextricably linked to the Games in Montreal.
