Steve Clarke says his team selection against Japan and Ivory Coast “might raise an eyebrow” as he leaves the World Cup door open to rookies including Findlay Curtis.
Clarke will ramp up preparations for North America with a friendly against the side ranked 19th in the world. Rangers winger Curtis, on loan at Kilmarnock, is the only uncapped player in the squad to face Hajime Moriyasu’s side at Hampden tomorrow.
But Wrexham captain Dom Hyam, Sparta Prague midfielder Andy Irving and Middlesbrough hitman Tommy Conway are among the fringe players looking to make a late push to be included in the squad that travels across the Atlantic.
And, while Clarke is looking to keep momentum building after the euphoria of qualification with two positive results, he admits he also has to take into consideration his players’ fitness while looking at different personnel.
