“I didn’t feel that good overall… it wasn’t a great outing.”
He noted that even during warmups, something felt off mechanically, despite feeling fine physically.
“I felt fine physically… but mechanically it wasn’t where I wanted.”
Ohtani was still able to settle in after early trouble and limit further damage, which he viewed as a positive.
“Being able to recover after that was a good part.”
On the decision to not DH when pitching, Ohtani made it clear he’s flexible and fully trusts the team’s plan.
“I’m fine either way… I’ll do whatever the team decides.”
He also acknowledged that over a long season, managing workload and staying healthy could make this approach beneficial.
“With a long season, it could help keep me healthy.”
Ohtani emphasized that the focus remains on staying in top condition for the full year, especially with the goal of being at his best later in the season.
“Staying healthy and being ready for the season as a whole is the most important.”
He added that balancing pitching and hitting is always a challenge, especially when trying to improve mechanics while managing overall workload.
