Dave Roberts discussed the Dodgers loss to the Giants, including missed offensive opportunities, Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s outing, and the decision to give Shohei Ohtani time away from hitting.
Roberts admitted the Dodgers offense continues to struggle creating and capitalizing on limited scoring chances.
“When the margins are thin, it’s hard.”
The Dodgers manager discussed:
Missed opportunities with runners on base
The lineup not slugging consistently
Why the offense currently lacks margin for error
Shohei Ohtani finally looking more relaxed offensively
Ohtani smiling and laughing again after his home run
Why the Dodgers are sticking to the plan to rest Ohtani from hitting
Believing the mental and physical reset can help him long term
On Yamamoto, Roberts explained:
The Dodgers ace pitched well early
Three home runs to the bottom of the order changed the game
Several mistakes were left in hittable spots
The Giants attacked early in counts aggressively
Yamamoto may have simply run out of gas late
Roberts also praised Ohtani’s overall offensive night and said his opposite-field home run could become an important turning point moving forward.
