Roberts said Ohtani looked good while playing catch and remains on track to make his scheduled start.
“The swelling is completely dissipated.”
The Dodgers manager said the club feels confident moving forward after seeing Ohtani’s progress.
Roberts also revealed there may be a mechanical explanation for the irritation.
“He was talking about closing himself off.”
According to Roberts, Ohtani and the pitching staff have discussed whether a slight adjustment in his landing mechanics could reduce stress on the front knee.
While nothing is guaranteed until Ohtani completes his bullpen session, Roberts indicated the chances of a setback appear low.
“Very unlikely.”
The Dodgers manager also confirmed Tommy Edman has returned and will see time at second base, third base and left field while the club manages his workload.
