Roberts said Ohtani’s recent command has simply not been at the level the superstar expects from himself.
“I think the fastball command hasn’t been there to his expectations.”
Roberts also downplayed concerns about the blood seen on Ohtani’s pants during his last outing, explaining it came from the protective covering coming off rather than the blister itself worsening.

On Will Smith, Roberts confirmed the All-Star catcher has not resumed baseball activities and will not join the team in San Diego or Sacramento.
Regarding Ohtani, Roberts emphasized that the Dodgers continue monitoring both his knee and blister, but the two-way superstar remains physically, mentally, and emotionally ready to compete.
