Dave Roberts provided updates on Shohei Ohtani, Dalton Rushing, Kyle Tucker, Blake Snell and Will Smith before the Dodgers opened their series against the Padres.
Roberts said Kyle Tucker is back in the lineup after his brief absence and believes the time away helped both physically and mentally.
“I think we got the mental reset and also physically he’s in a good spot.”
The Dodgers manager also addressed the conversations that followed the communication issues between Shohei Ohtani and Dalton Rushing during Ohtani’s last start, saying everyone is now on the same page.

Roberts explained that Ohtani has a very specific vision for how he wants to attack hitters, making communication with his catcher especially important.
“Shohei is very particular in what he wants to throw.”
He also said he doesn’t expect the communication issues from Ohtani’s previous outing to become a recurring problem.
“I really don’t see that happening again.”
Roberts added that Blake Snell threw another successful bullpen but is not expected back before the All-Star break, while Will Smith has yet to resume baseball activities.
