The National Wagyu Talent Exhibition is held once every five years. Also known as the “Wagyu Olympics,” about 440 cows from 41 prefectures across the country compete to be the best wagyu beef in Japan. At the competition, judging will be done in nine categories, such as overall evaluation and the quality of fat introduced from this competition. On the other hand, even more enthusiastic than the judging was the section where you can taste brand beef from all over Japan for free. People enjoying tasting: “Kagoshima is delicious, but Sendai beef was better for me. I’m from Kagoshima, but I don’t want to say this.” The Prime Minister’s Award, the highest award selected from the top of the department, will be awarded. Kagoshima Prefecture won the “Seed Cattle Category,” which examines breeding ability. And in the “beef section” where the quality of meat is competed… Prime Minister Kishida: “Beef section, Miyazaki prefecture” Miyazaki beef became the best beef in Japan. The Prime Minister’s Award has been awarded four times in a row. We asked a yakiniku restaurant in Tokyo that specializes in serving Miyazaki beef about its characteristics. Seiichiro Fukushige, owner of Miyazaki Beef Specialty Restaurant: “(Fat) has a low melting point, a mellow aroma, and the meat is sweet. So, they feed on the straw left after harvesting the rice, so isn’t that kind of geographical advantage too?”
