Sports dance “breaking” will be an official event from the Paris Olympics the year after next. The World Congress was held this weekend in New York. In fact, New York is the “birthplace” of “breaking”. We interviewed dynamic Japanese athletes and the roots of the sport. A world breakin’ tournament where athletes from 20 countries performed acrobatic tricks to hip-hop music. The players from Japan were here with a special feeling. ISSIN: “I had a feeling that I wanted to go to the real place called New York, so I’m very happy to be able to dance in New York.” I was quite surprised,” said Victor Alicia, who served as a judge at the competition. He is a dancer who is known as “Kid Glyde” in his hometown of New York. We asked Kid Glyde to show us around the Bronx, New York, the birthplace of breaking. At first glance, it looks like an ordinary apartment, but this place with many Latinos and Africans is the mecca of breaking. Kid Glyde “You see that sign? It is said that it started when people danced to the “break beats”, which consisted only of the “drums” part of the interlude. Kid Glyde said, “People were living in poverty, but DJs played hip-hop music and had parties and had a good time. It was a place where people could actively express themselves.” It has not only become a place of self-expression and healing for the poor. The Bronx used to be known for its unsafe conditions, with constant gang wars, but there was a growing movement to settle disputes with dance instead of violence. Kid Glyde: “The gang members who were breaking wanted to dance, not fight. They had big dreams of self-expression, not stealing and killing.” Then, one-on-one games are still called “battles”, but there was such a history behind it. Kid Glyde, who is currently working hard to nurture young talent. He hopes to pass on the roots and significance of breaking to younger generations, overcoming poverty and violence. Kid Glyde “By coming here, players (from all over the world) can experience the real breaking culture, because the essence of breaking is in New York.” The dance, which spread with the desire to eliminate violence, is likely to shine even more at the peace festival, the Olympics. ▼TBS NEWS DIG official website https://newsdig.tbs.co.jp/ ▼Please subscribe to the channel! http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6AG81pAkf6Lbi_1VC5NmPA?sub_confirmation=1 ▼Provide information here “TBS Insiders” https://www.tbs.co.jp/news_sp/tbs-insiders.html ▼Provide video Click here for “TBS Scoop Post” https://www.tbs.co.jp/news_sp/toukou.html
