〇 A message from Governor Koike was delivered live on July 23 (Friday / holiday), the day of the opening ceremony of the 32nd Olympic Games.[Message content]Hello everyone. I am Yuriko Koike, the governor of Tokyo. This day has finally arrived. The opening of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is just around the corner. It was a long, long way. This day was celebrated thanks to the support of many people. I would like to express my sincere gratitude. thank you. Today, the world is in the midst of fighting infectious diseases. I would like to pay tribute to the medical staff, day and night. We would like to thank all of you for your cooperation in infection prevention measures. thank you. At the Tokyo 2020 Games, we have made every effort to realize a safe and secure event for not only the athletes who play the leading role in the Games, but also the people of Tokyo, the people, and everyone else. And the historic tournament, where athletes from all over the world meet in Tokyo, is about to begin. The origin of the Tokyo 2020 Games is the reconstruction Olympics. The earthquake and tsunami that struck eastern Japan in 2011 plunged not only the disaster-stricken areas but all over Japan into deep sorrow. At that time, we will never forget the warm support and encouragement we received from all over the world. Ten years after that, the torch relay started Fukushima J-Village in March this year. From the 21st of the day before yesterday, softball was held at Azuma Stadium in Fukushima and soccer was held at Miyagi Stadium prior to the opening ceremony, and a fierce battle is still taking place. I would like to express my gratitude once again as the governor of the host city and as a Japanese person for the support and support from around the world. By the way, at the 1964 Tokyo Games, the infrastructure of the city, such as the Metropolitan Expressway and the Tokaido Shinkansen, was improved. The last tournament is a symbol of Japan’s recovery from the devastation after the war and its economic recovery. And the Tokyo 2020 Games have arrived. Since the decision to hold the event on September 7, 2013, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has been making efforts to create a qualitative change in the city of Tokyo for a better future at the same time as the success of the tournament. This change in Tokyo is aimed at creating a sustainable society for the future, where people can play an active role. We are aiming for sustainable recovery and “sustainable recovery” through the Games in response to the infectious diseases and climate change crisis facing the world. For example, the “Medal Project” produced 5,000 medals from recycled metal extracted from used mobile phones and small household appliances. This is an initiative aimed at creating a society that considers the environment and makes effective use of resources. After this, all the proof of honor that will be awarded to the athletes who won the fierce battle is born from this project. Tokyo is also the first city in the world to host the second Paralympic Games. We have promoted community development such as barrier-free and multilingual support so that everyone, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and foreigners, can feel kindness. In order to realize smooth movement during the tournament, we are also developing “Smooth Biz” that promotes telework, staggered commuting, and traffic demand management in an integrated manner. This will be one of the powerful means of infectious disease control, and will contribute to the diverse work styles of the future and the comfortable urban environment. The transformation of Tokyo has already begun. In order to further refine the legacy of these tournaments, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has formulated the “Future Tokyo” Strategy, in which it will create “Tokyo where people shine.” People are the ones who will open up the future in all ages. We will create a society where everyone can grasp the future on their own initiative. A sustainable society where people shine. This is the center of this legacy, the future vision of Tokyo, which hosted the second Olympic and Paralympic Games. Right now, the best moment of “shining people” is about to unfold in front of us. In the unusual situation of postponing the tournament for one year, athletes all over the world have been struggling to secure a practice environment and adjust the game schedule, and have been training every day to aim for the Tokyo Games. Let’s send heartfelt support so that athletes who control themselves and engage in competition with all their might can perform at their best. 7.8 billion spectators around the world bring out their abilities. Let’s firmly imprint the “shining” appearance of the players on your eyes. The host city, Tokyo, will continue to make every effort to manage the Games in cooperation with the Organizing Committee, the IOC, the national government, and local governments. Last but not least, to all the people concerned who cooperated with the efforts of Tokyo toward this tournament, to the people of Tokyo and the people who understood the tournament, and to everyone in the world. Thank you. Let’s make the Tokyo 2020 Games such a wonderful event that will remain in the memory of many people forever and will be a “light of hope” for people all over the world. Thank you very much.
