Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has been substituted with a suspected injury in the first-half of their Europa League second-leg clash against Sporting CP. The Japanese defender fell to the ground shortly after overstretching for a tackle on Sporting’s Francisco Trincao.

Tomiyasu seemed to be receiving treatment on his left knee before being replaced by Ben White. The Japanese defender’s injury comes after a bizarre dig from Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, claiming the Gunners have not had to deal with many injury concerns this season.

Ten Hag said: “Only in one game could I say, ok I can pick my team, also from a tactical approach, that was perfect. That was against Man City at home.

“And that was the only time in this season. In other times, in every game, it was one player suspended, one player is injured or [has] illness, so we have to deal with it well but of course you hope, like I see with Arsenal, that they almost have all the time their squad available.”

It remains to be seen how long Tomiyasu is sidelined for, but he is now a serious doubt for the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace this weekend.
