The big-spending Los Angeles Dodgers became the first of the 30 MLB teams to start spring training, opening on a dreary, wet and chilly Thursday morning at Camelback Ranch ahead of their opener against San Diego on 20 March in Seoul, South Korea.

Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Clayton Kershaw were among the arrivals. Kershaw spoke to the media about his return to the Dodgers after signing a new contract and the 3 November surgery he underwent to repair his left shoulder capsule and glenohumeral ligaments, which reinforce the joint capsule. He expects to be available to pitch this summer.
