They are suitable for trading and personal use. They are the key to raising the ceiling of the team’s floor. We will introduce you to unknown minor league rookies. Hello everyone, my name is Chris. The rookie I want to introduce today is Brendan Beck, the 11th ranked triple-A right-hander on the Yankee farm. Brendan Beck is 26 years old. He is 6 feet 2 inches tall (about 188 centimeters) and weighs 218 pounds (about 99 kilograms). He has a pretty good figure. Brendan Beck also has an older brother who also plays baseball, Triston Beck, a relief pitcher who currently plays for the Giants. He has played as many as 46 games for the Giants this year. Beck initially played as an infielder in high school and entered Stanford University as an infielder. It was not until the coaching staff was changed in the middle of his freshman season and the Stanford infield was very crowded at the time that he switched to pitching and began to show off as a starting pitcher. In the second half of the season, he played 17 games as a pitcher, 12 of which were starts. In 66.2 innings, he posted an 8-0 ERA with an excellent ERA of 2.43. However, the only drawback was that his strikeout ability was not very good, with only 38 strikeouts and 12 walks. His strikeout-to-walk ratio was not good, but his excellent ball control still allowed him to effectively suppress hitters. Entering his sophomore season, Beck was fully established in Stanford’s starting rotation. He started in 16 of 17 games. He pitched 91.2 innings and posted a 5-4 ERA with a 3.63 ERA. Although his results were not as good as his freshman year, his strikeout ability that he did not have as a freshman was shown in his sophomore year. He sent out 83 strikeouts and only 25 walks. In addition, he was not prone to long hits, so his results were still quite good. Although the epidemic delayed his participation in the major league draft during his junior season, Beck said that he did not feel that a year was wasted. This year he worked hard to get better, whether it was pitching mechanics or physical fitness, so that he could face his senior season and the rookie draft that was a year later more calmly. His senior season was Beck’s best season in college. He played in the most 17 games in his college career, 15 of which were starts. In 108.2 innings, he posted a 9-3 ERA with an ERA of only 3.15. He struck out 143 times and walked just 26 times. His excellent ball-handling ability and good power earned him the honor of being named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, and attracted many teams to target him. After the season, Beck joined the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. Unfortunately, Beck was originally highly regarded in the first round, but due to TJ surgery at the end of the college season, his pick dropped slightly. In the end, he was selected by the Yankees with the 55th overall pick in the second round to start his career. His career has not been smooth at all, because TJ surgery prevented him from playing in the second half of 2021 and the entire season of 2022. After his comeback in 2023, the Yankees sent him to the Rookie League for rehabilitation. After pitching three innings, he was promoted to high-level 1A practice. He started in 10 games and posted a 0-1 record. His ERA was only 1.59, with 40 strikeouts and only 7 walks in 34 innings. His ball control ability and ball power were still excellent, but bad luck befell him again. He had another TJ surgery due to soreness in his forearm, causing him to miss the rest of the 2023 season and the entire year of 2024 again, until now. He came back in 2A in 2016 and is about to complete his first full career season. He performed at a massacre level in 2A. He played in 11 games in 2A, starting 9 of them. He posted a 5-2 ERA of only 1.82, 52 strikeouts and only 12 walks. Such excellent performance allowed the Yankees to quickly move him. He was promoted to Triple-A and has started in 15 games as of September 18. He posted an ERA of 8-3 and a 4.44 ERA, with 71 strikeouts and only 24 walks. The biggest problem currently in 3A is that he gets too many home runs, which makes his ERA a bit unsightly. This is his biggest problem at the moment. Brendan Beck can throw four pitches, including a four-seam, curveball, slider and changeup. The most highly rated among them is his slider with an average speed of 83 miles. It has a considerable range of changes and is also the type of ball he relies on. The four-seam average speed is 94 miles, which is his most commonly used ball. However, the tail power is not very good, so his four-seam evaluation is not very high. The curveball is his weapon. The curveball with an average speed of more than 70 miles has a large vertical range and a speed difference of more than 20 miles. Although other pitches except the slider are not rated very high, his biggest weapon is his excellent ball control ability. He has the best ball control in the entire Yankees minor league system, with a ball handling rating of 60 points. Anyone who has watched his game will feel that his ball control is really good, which allows him to make up for the shortcomings of his poor ball control. From the current point of view, Beck is too old, which limits his ceiling. Although his ball control is extremely good, his ball quality is average, which also limits his ceiling. So at present, I think his ceiling is at most a starting rotation in the middle and late stages, but his excellent ball control makes his floor quite high, at least he can be used as a long relay option.
