One of my favorite World Cup memories.

I followed Japan supporters from the streets of Monterrey to the stadium, watched them cheer their team to a brilliant 4–0 victory over Tunisia, and celebrated with them after the match.

The atmosphere was unforgettable—from fans dancing before kickoff, to the sea of phone lights inside Monterrey Stadium (Estadio BBVA) with the Sierra Madre mountains in the background, to the celebrations that continued long after the final whistle. Japan’s goals came from Daichi Kamada, Ayase Ueda (twice), and Junya Ito, as the Samurai Blue recorded the biggest World Cup win by an AFC nation and secured a historic victory.

Before this trip, I thought Japanese fans would be quiet and reserved. Instead, I met some of the friendliest, happiest, and most passionate football supporters I’ve ever seen.

Would you celebrate like this after your team won 4–0? 🇯🇵⚽
