Despite falling in the series finale, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts came away encouraged after Los Angeles won two of three games against the Yankees.
Roberts discussed the offense being held in check, Shohei Ohtani’s rare late-game strikeout, Evan Phillips continuing to adjust after his lengthy rehab, and why he believes the Dodgers are in a good position heading into Philadelphia.

Roberts admitted Ohtani expanded the strike zone against Bednar, something he said “we haven’t seen Shohei do in quite some time.” He also shared that Ohtani reported no issues with his knee, including after his play at first base, and was encouraged by how he felt while playing catch.
On Phillips, Roberts acknowledged that returning after an 18-month rehab process was never expected to be seamless but emphasized that the right-hander’s stuff remains strong and that the organization has full confidence in him.
Roberts also praised Eliézer Alfonzo for collecting his first Major League hit, saying it was rewarding after everything the young catcher has been through and adding that Alfonzo has been excellent defensively behind the plate.
